23-year old Alona Bondarenko and her sister Kateryna won the doubles title at the 2008 Australian Open, becoming only the second pair of sisters besides Venus and Serena Williams to win a doubles championship in the open era.
Alona, or Alyona as it’s sometimes spelled in English ( her name is pronounced a-LOH-nuh bon-da-REN-ko), has won two other singles titles on the WTA Tour and is currently ranked 21st in the world, so she’s a lot better tennis player than Anna Kournikova ever was.
Still, it’s the Kournikova comparisons that draw attention to Bondarenko’s hot blond looks. Alona even has the same braided ponytail look that Anna made famous.
Alyona even looks a lot like Anna when she lets her hair down.
She had her best year as a pro in 2007 and is currently gearing up for Wimbledon where she reached the third round last year.
At five foot, 6 inches and 130 pounds, Alona Bondarenko has a powerful serve that comes in handy for hitting aces when she needs them most.
Her intense focus on the game comes from both her parents being tennis coaches. She recently passed $1.5 million in WTA earnings, becoming the first Ukrainian tennis player to achieve that mark.
